Nick Burkett

Nick was born and raised in Tyler and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. Nick earned his BBA in Accounting from Texas A&M University, graduating Magna Cum Laude.  Nick also earned his MS in Finance from Texas A&M. Nick possesses a wide range of experience which the Firm leverages across various practice areas.

Nick’s expertise has been developed through an extensive professional background. After graduating from Texas A&M, Nick was recruited by Deloitte, LLP one of the world’s “Big 4” accounting firms.  Nick joined Deloitte’s Houston, TX office, working in audit & advisory services.

Nick began his career in forensic accounting after joining Matson, Driscoll & Damico, LLP. MDD is a global forensic accounting firm with a specialty in insurance and litigation matters. Nick worked with substantial insurance and casualty losses and litigation support services.

Nick later joined Navigant Consulting, a top 25 global consulting firm, in their Dallas office. Here, Nick further honed his craft in economic damages and litigation support.  These services included business valuations, lost profits calculations, complex federal tax damages and intellectual property damages.

Part of Navigant’s team left to form the forensic and dispute resolutions service line for Alvarez & Marsal, LLP’s Dallas office. Here, Nick deepened his knowledge and expertise in intellectual property damages and general economic damage litigation.

In 2009, Nick moved back home to Tyler, TX to join Bailes & Co., PC, a leading firm in the area of business valuations, forensic accounting and litigation support in the Northeast Texas region. While at Bailes & Co, Nick found his calling to be a well-rounded and trusted advisor to successful entrepreneurs and small business owners from all walks of life.

This distinguished and well-rounded professional background coupled with Nick’s passion for small business formed the foundation for The Burkett Firm, P.C.

THE CREDENTIALS YOU NEED

The Burkett Firm and its staff possesses a diverse and well-rounded set of credentials which evidence our ability to advise clients in a unique way. Nick is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and is licensed in Texas. Nick added the Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) credential shortly thereafter.  Later, Nick added both the Accreditation in Business Valuation and the Certification in Financial Forensics, both of which are administered by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). This means that national and international licensing institutions have vetted Nick’s qualification in his many fields of specialty.

The Burkett Firm’s tax practice encompasses all types of tax filings and planning. The firm has significant experience in identifying, developing, presenting and implementing complex and value-added tax strategies to many of its clients.

The Firm has a high competency in business valuation services. We routinely appraise small business interests in a number of different circumstances and applications.

Nick is routinely designated as a financial expert in litigation cases involving various types of damages, valuations, asset tracings or other economic damage analyses.

OUTSIDE THE OFFICE

Since moving back to Tyler, Nick has embraced being a part of his home community. Nick and his wife, Sarah, are active members of Marvin United Methodist Church and have taken on lay leadership roles in a number of projects.  Nick is faithfully serving as the current board president of St. Paul Children’s Foundation.  In his spare time, Nick enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters, golfing, and following Aggie sports.
